BACHELOR OF RESPIRATORY TECHNOLOGY (B.RT)

(Aligned with NCAHP Council)

BACHELOR OF RESPIRATORY TECHNOLOGY (B.RT)

OVERVIEW

The Bachelor of Respiratory Technology (B.RT) is an undergraduate allied health sciences program focused on the assessment, diagnosis support, and therapeutic management of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. The course integrates foundational medical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and pathology with specialized respiratory care subjects including pulmonary function testing, airway management, arterial blood gas analysis, and mechanical ventilation. The program is designed to develop clinically competent professionals capable of delivering safe, ethical, and evidence-based respiratory care.

A major strength of the B.RT program is its extensive clinical training component. Students undergo structured clinical postings in intensive care units (ICU), emergency departments, operation theatres, neonatal and pediatric ICUs, pulmonary function laboratories, and rehabilitation units. During this period, they gain hands-on experience in oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, non-invasive and invasive ventilation, tracheostomy care, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, patient safety, infection control, and interdisciplinary teamwork to prepare graduates for high-acuity healthcare environments.
