The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science is an undergraduate program designed to develop skilled professionals capable of performing complex diagnostic procedures that are critical to patient care. Offered by Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences, this program integrates academic excellence with practical experience to prepare students for a vital role in the healthcare system. Students receive in-depth training in Clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Haematology, Immunology, Pathology, and Molecular Diagnostics. The curriculum is supported by hands-on learning in advanced laboratories and clinical internships at affiliated hospitals, ensuring graduates are work-ready upon completion.
Rapid advances in medical technology have greatly improved healthcare but also increased its complexity. Effective healthcare now depends on a multidisciplinary team, including professionals beyond doctors and nurses. As technology and standardised protocols become central to diagnosis and treatment, trained healthcare service managers and specialists are essential to ensure efficiency, safety, and quality.
Medical Laboratory Professionals play a key role by working with physicians and technicians to diagnose and monitor diseases and evaluate treatment effectiveness. Trained in areas such as microbiology, clinical chemistry, haematology, immunology, transfusion medicine, toxicology, and molecular diagnostics, they provide accurate and timely laboratory results that guide clinical decision-making.

Teaching in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) integrates theory, practical skills, clinical application, and professional conduct. As a competency-based programme, the focus is on developing both strong scientific understanding and hands-on laboratory proficiency.
Outcome: Competent, analytical, and industry-ready laboratory professionals.
Assessment in MLS must evaluate not only knowledge acquisition but also practical skills, clinical reasoning, professionalism, and workplace competence. A blended approach using both formative (ongoing feedback) and summative (final evaluation) assessments ensures that students achieve the required competencies.
The academic performance is assessed on the basis of both Continuous assessment and End Semester Examination (ESE) in each semester. ESE weightage will be in the ratio of 30 % for CIE and 70 % for ESE.
A Candidate must score 50% separately in theory and practical wherever applicable to be declared as pass. In case of fail, subsequently a candidate has to appear for both theory and practical examination of the university in that particular course.
Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS) will be awarded on successful completion of the program. It will be awarded at the end of semester VIII examination by taking into consideration the performance of all semester examinations after obtaining minimum 4.00 CGPA out of 10 CGPA.
