In recent years, there has been a significant shift in the way mental and behavioural health is perceived and addressed. The COVID-19 pandemic not only heightened awareness about the importance of emotional well-being but also exposed critical gaps in mental health services worldwide. The increasing demand for behavioural health professionals is met with challenges such as social stigma, a shortage of qualified experts, and a fragmented healthcare system. This has created a dire need for skilled, passionate individuals trained in psychology and healthcare.
There are numerous certificate courses and diploma programmes that train students only in certain aspects of mental health and psychology. However, our B.Sc.in Behavioural Health Sciences offers a robust, comprehensive, multidisciplinary curriculum hat equips students from diverse academic backgrounds with the in-depth knowledge and practical skills necessary for a career in behavioural health. This gives them the required educational qualifications to be workforce ready.
Mental health disorders are usually viewed as an individual issue - this programme focuses on busting that myth by adopting a holistic, interdisciplianary approach to behavioural health. It equips students to gain a thorough understanding of how life experiences, community, culture, law, the economic and political climate, environmental concerns, physical and mental health systems contribute to an individual's experience of mental health and mental illness across an individual's lifespan. Thereby, highlighting the need to integrate these factors in the management of mental illness.
Unlike traditional programmes such as B.A. or B.Sc. in Psychology, Psychology Honours, or Applied Psychology, our degree stands out due to its focus on skill development and core competencies.Students receive training in essential areas such as empathy, communication, negotiation, stakeholder collaboration, psychoeducation, and integrated management planning. Additionally, they gain expertise in behavioural health advocacy, awareness initiatives, and destigmatization efforts.
Upon completion of the programme, students have the flexibility to either enter the workforce in various behavioural health roles or pursue advanced studies in specialized areas worldwide. Our B.Sc. in Behavioural Health Sciences is designed to create competent, compassionate, and workforce-ready professionals dedicated to transforming the landscape of behavioural health care.
The B.Sc. (Behavioural Health Sciences) Honours / Honours with Research aligns with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act 2021, ensuring that graduates meet the highest professional standards in the field.
