The SIHS library caters to the need of the students and faculty as an integral part of the education system by supporting the teaching, learning, scholarship and research activities of the Institute & University.

SIHS library has implemented KOHA integrated library Management software. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) of books and other reading material are accessible from any location. OPAC consists of books, AV material, print journals and magazines, Theses ( http://symbiosis-koha.informindia.co.in ).

There are total 4 four sections in the library: Circulation Section, Reference Section, Reading Hall, Journals and IT Zone

General Rules for SIHS Students
  • Identity Card is mandatory for access to the library.
  • All members are advised to come to the Library in institute uniform or appropriate attire.
  • Member ,is not allowed to bring personal belongings (including personal books and other printed materials). Only loose papers, pen and/or pencil is allowed.
  • Beverages and Eatables are not permitted inside the Library.
  • Member is not allowed to not smoke, drink or spit in any part of the library.
  • All users are requested to keep their mobile phones switched off or in silent mode when in the library.
  • Member shall observe silence in the Library.
  • No conversation is entertained in the library
  • Important topics from Reference Books/Current Issues of Periodicals can be photocopied on request.
  • In case the book/magazine/Journal is lost, member will have to replace the same
  • Books must be handled carefully. Tearing/ damaging the books is not allowed. If any book is damaged, stringent disciplinary action will be taken against the individual.
  • Member shall not write in, damage or mark any book borrowed from the the library.
  • Member leaving the library should stop at the exit so security personnel can confirm borrowed material.
  • Member should not replace the book that is once removed from the shelf. It should be kept on the book trolley or on table nearest to them.
  • The newspaper(s) are available on the newspaper stand for reading. Member is strictly prohibited to remove the newspaper from the stand or cutting/ damaging any part of it.
  • Readers should not deface, mark, cut, mutilate or damage library resources in any way. If anyone is found doing so, he/ she will be charged the full replacement cost of the resource.
  • No photography of the Library shall be taken without the prior permission of the concerned authorities.
  • Suggestion Slips are available at the circulation desk for use. Suggestion slips should be dropped in the suggestion box only.
  • The Librarian reserves the right to suspend the membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff or behaving in an indecent manner and this will be brought to the notice of the disciplinary committee
  • User may suggest/recommend book/books, which are useful for their study. Recommendation can be done online through OPAC ( http://symbiosis-koha.informindia.co.in )
Membership

Membership is by default extended to

  • Faculty of Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS).
Rules for the Members
  • Students, Faculty and Staff of SIHS avail the facility by producing the SIHS Library card which is the only mandatory criteria to avail SIHS library membership.
  • Members should adhere to the dress code of the institute.
  • Reading Hall Members should carry their own material for study.
  • Library will terminate the membership of any individual in case of misbehaviour / violation of rules.

LIBRARY SERVICES FOR IN-HOUSE Symbiosis institute of health sciences(SIHS) USERS
  1. Inter Library Loan (ILL):

    Library arranges to borrow books that are not available in SIHS library on Inter Library Loan from other Symbiosis libraries. This is done on an Institution-to-Institution basis. Such materials will have to be handled with utmost care and returned to the library well on time. This service is provided for academic and research purpose to the faculty, registered students of SIHS and staff who are members of the SIHS library.
    Members are requested to send a formal request to the library with complete bibliographic details of Book which can be accessed via the WEB-OPAC.

  2. Referral Services:

    Library offers individualized service to assist students, faculty, researchers and staff in locating the required information i.e. book or magazine/journal location in the library

    • Locate information in the library and elsewhere.
    • Answer specific information questions.

  3. New Additions of Books:

    Library brings out a monthly list of books added to the collection. This list is sent to the library users over email.

  4. Plagiarism Checking Service:

    Library offers Plagiarism Checking Service using a ‘Turnitin’ tool to its registered users. Turnitin is a leading originality checking and plagiarism prevention web tool which allows researchers to compare their contents against the massive databases to ensure the work is original before submission. SIU Central Library has a paid license to this tool and has provided an account to SIHS Library.
    At the moment library is checking Plagiarism for students’ assignment and dissertation as well as for faculties for their research articles on based on prior intimation.

  5. Document Delivery Service:

    SIHS library provides Document Delivery Service to its registered users. If the required articles or research papers which comes in the journals is available in the subscribed database, then SIHS library sends the full text to its users and if the required information access in full text is not available in subscribed database then SIHS library coordinates to provide its users with the requested materials.

Borrowing Rules
  • Books which are labeled / stamped as reference books are not for borrowing.
  • Library is authorized to declare/hold certain books as reference material according to the demand. The book may not be labeled as Reference material.
  • Old loose issue of magazines only can be borrowed. New/Latest issues and back volumes are for reference only.
  • Borrowing period for particular material may reduce depending on demand for that particular resource/ material.

Web OPAC is an Online Public Access Catalogue which allows library users avail the services of the library using Internet. Every library member gets the access of Web OPAC where he/she can check his/her circulation history, recommend new book titles to the library, create own reading list of favourite books etc.

E-Resources

Library members can get the access of all e-resources on library portal. To access these e-resources you should have the login credentials for it. Every year newly admitted student’s registration is done according to their course duration by the librarian.

Once the registration is completed members get the access of all e-resources purchased by the SIU Central library. Also, all institutionally subscribed databases, e-books and e-journals can be accessed through this library portal.

National Digital Library

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. Shodhganga

The Shodhganga@INFLIBNET is set-up using an open source digital repository software called DSpace developed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in partnership between Hewlett- Packard (HP). The DSpace uses internationally recognized protocols and interoperability standards. Shodhganga provides a platform for research scholars to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access. The repository has the ability to capture, index, store, disseminate and preserve ETDs (Electronic Theses and Dissertations) submitted by the researchers.

1. Who can access the library services?

Students, Faculty, Visiting Faculty, Adjunct Faculty and Staff of Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences can access the SIHS library services. Also other institute’s users of Symbiosis can refer the books of SIHS Library in the Library Premises only. Identity card & Library card is mandatory to enter SIHS Library.
2. Can I bring a personal book in the library?

You can carry own books to the library by making necessary entries in daily log register.

5. What are the overdue charges against late return of a book?

Over dues, as laid down hereunder, shall be charged from the students if they fail to return the book(s) on or before the deadline as indicated on the Due-Date-Slip in the book:
Fine will be charged including all Sundays and Holidays.
Rs.5.00 per book per day shall be charged
6. I have lost the library book, what can I do?

First you should immediately report the loss to the circulation desk at the library. In case a book/magazine/Journal is lost; the borrower has to replace the same with the latest Edition/Version of the material. If the copy is out of print then the user has to pay the cost of the material along with the overdue amount of fine within 15 days from the reporting.
7.Where can I make a suggestion to the library?

“Suggestion Box” placed at the entrance of the library where you can drop-in your valuable suggestion(s). You can also email the suggestions to library@sihspune.org
8. How can I recommend a book for purchase in the Library?

Students can give their recommendations through the Web OPAC. Login with your PRN fill the form and submit it.
9.How can I access the E-Recourses?

As it is mentioned on the web site under the E-Resources. You can access the databases through the login credentials of SIU Central library Gateway Portal which is been issued to all the registered students of SIHS. Those who don’t know the credentials can contact the library. Only Symbiosis students and faculty can access these databases through their own login credentials.
