Bachelor of Dialysis Therapy Technology (B.DTT)

(Aligned with NCAHP Council)

Bachelor of Dialysis Therapy Technology (B.DTT)

The Bachelor of Dialysis Therapy Technology (B.DTT) program prepares students to become competent Dialysis Therapy Technologists and Dialysis Therapists who play a vital role in strengthening renal healthcare services in India. In the context of the increasing burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD), the program equips graduates with the knowledge and skills required to meet the growing demand for timely, safe, and high-quality dialysis care.

The curriculum emphasizes hands-on proficiency in various dialysis modalities, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, along with the safe operation of advanced dialysis equipment and effective patient monitoring. In addition to technical competencies, the program focuses on patient education and support, enabling graduates to empower patients to actively participate in their own care.

B.DTT graduates are trained to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver individualized, holistic renal care, including services in critical care units and transplantation settings. By promoting up-to-date knowledge, quality improvement practices, and collaborative care models, the B.DTT program develops essential healthcare professionals who contribute significantly to improved patient outcomes and equitable access to high-quality dialysis services across India.

ORIENTATION & PEDAGOGY
Orientation

At the commencement of the program, students are introduced to the structure of the curriculum, institutional policies, professional expectations, patient safety principles, and the scope of practice of a Dialysis Therapy Technologist. The orientation familiarizes learners with healthcare systems, infection prevention protocols, biomedical waste management, communication standards, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Early exposure to clinical environments helps students understand workplace culture, patient-centered care, and the importance of empathy, confidentiality, and professionalism in renal care settings.

Students are also oriented toward emerging trends such as technology-enabled dialysis, quality assurance, evidence-based practice, and environmental sustainability in dialysis services. This foundation supports their transition from classroom learning to clinical competence.

Pedagogy

The program employs a blended teaching–learning methodology designed to promote critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and lifelong learning. Key pedagogical strategies include:

  • Didactic Lectures and Interactive Sessions: Provide strong theoretical grounding in anatomy, physiology, renal pathology, dialysis techniques, pharmacology, and medical technology.
  • Skill-Based Training and Simulation: Structured laboratory sessions, simulation-based learning, and supervised skill demonstrations enable students to safely practice procedures before patient interaction.
  • Clinical Postings: Progressive, supervised clinical rotations in dialysis units, ICUs, and transplant settings facilitate experiential learning and competency development.
  • Case-Based and Problem-Based Learning: Encourage analytical thinking and application of knowledge to real-world clinical scenarios.
  • Interprofessional Education: Opportunities to collaborate with nephrologists, nurses, technicians, and other healthcare professionals foster teamwork and coordinated patient care.
  • Self-Directed Learning: Assignments, seminars, reflective practice, and digital learning resources promote independent inquiry and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Continuous Assessment: Formative and summative evaluations, including practical examinations, logbooks, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), and internal assessments, ensure attainment of required competencies.
Standard of Passing:

50% in Internal assessment, 50% in Theory examination, 50% in Practical examination and 50% in aggregate.

EVALUATION & ASSESSMENTS

ASSESSMENT

  • For End Semester Examination subjects: 50% in Internal Assessment, 50% in Theory Examination, 50% in Practical Examination and 50% in aggregate.
  • The course will be assessed as per the NCAHP Guidelines: Theory: a+(b÷2)=100 and Practical: a+c= 100
  • Where: a = Continuous Internal assessment CIA- Theory/ Practical b = Theory and c= Practical/Viva

STANDARD OF PASSING

  • According to the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Profession (NCAHP) Council:
  • For End Semester Examination subjects: 50% in Internal Assessment, 50% in Theory Examination, 50% in Practical Examination and 50% in aggregate.
  • The passing minimum for the theory exams and Practical exams have to be obtained separately, in order to be declared passed in the individual courses and thereby earning the credits for both Theory and Practical courses. Reappearance in any one of the components (Theory or Practical) is treated as reappear in both these components (Theory and Practical’s).
AWARD OF DEGREE
