In the B.Sc. in Paramedical Technology Honours/Honours with Research, students undergo rigorous training for 4 years where they learn various modalities under their specializations and understand their working principles and their operations protocols.
Before they are deputed for clinical training, they are first sensitized and trained in developing and mastering the necessary techniques & skills required prior to exposure to hospital in a simulated environment.
They are then exposed to live cases and ‘hands-on’ training at Symbiosis University Hospital & Research Center (SUHRC), and associated healthcare organizations.
The programme includes both theoretical & practical knowledge of the Diagnostic Investigations, Therapeutic procedures and Equipment as applicable to the health care sector today. It introduces students to emerging technologies and their applications. Students spend a considerable part of their learning time in hospital set-ups where they are exposed to actual 'hands-on' practical training. Each student works on a research project and understands the intricacies of research methodology & grant writing related to his / her specialisation.
Successfully completing an honours degree prepares the student for higher-degree study at master's and PhD level. This is also helpful to demonstrate a higher capacity for independent learning and research, along with enhanced problem-solving, critical thinking and communication skills. This include supervised research, and require students to maintain a high academic standard.
The well-equipped health skill laboratories facility strives to provide high –tech simulated and virtually created hospital set-up for teaching, training and assessment for all health care professionals in clinical and related management skills making SIHS one of the best BSc MLT colleges in Pune. The broad objective is to align with the National Agenda of Skill Development to create a robust and vibrant ecosystem for quality education and skill development in the healthcare sector in the country. This simulation-based training is an integral part of education and training in Medical Technology and helps students to expertise the technical competencies followed by real time “Hands-On” practical training in hospital.
As part of their curriculum, students are taught additional modules on Information Technology (IT) & Management relevant to the healthcare. The students are also trained in soft skills, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). The Global Immersion Program (GIP) & Social Services exposes the students to the external world & helps in the overall development of the student. There is emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach towards achieving professional success.
After completion of 1st year, students undergo “Observership” to expose them in various departments of hospital for a better understanding of the specialization they would like to pursue. Further, Students are continuously exposed to experiential learning through “SIP” (Summer Internship Program) and “OJT” (On Job Training) equipping them with practical “hands-on” skills to enhance their career advancement. Students are also involved in Service-learning activities and community-based research projects.
The pedagogy includes synchronous & asynchronous academic sessions, demonstrations, discussions, quizzes, presentations and practicals.
