Bachelor of Endoscopy & Laparoscopy Technology (B.ELT) is an advanced allied healthcare programme focused on the operation, management, maintenance, and clinical assistance involved in minimally invasive diagnostic and surgical procedures. Endoscopy & Laparoscopy Technologists play a critical role in supporting surgeons, gastroenterologists, gynecologists, urologists, and multidisciplinary surgical teams during endoscopic and laparoscopic interventions.
The programme is designed in accordance with the competency-based curriculum framework prescribed by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The curriculum integrates strong theoretical foundations with structured practical and clinical training in endoscopic procedures, laparoscopic surgeries, sterilization techniques, operation theatre protocols, patient safety, biomedical instrumentation, infection control, and healthcare ethics.
Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) offers a four-year full-time programme — Bachelor of Endoscopy & Laparoscopy Technology (B.ELT) — aimed at developing competent, ethical, technologically skilled, and industry-ready professionals capable of supporting modern minimally invasive healthcare services.
Total Duration: 4 Years Full Time (3 Years Academic Programme + 1 Year Compulsory Rotatory Internship)
Well-trained Endoscopy & Laparoscopy Technologists with strong technical and clinical expertise can pursue rewarding careers in rapidly advancing surgical and minimally invasive healthcare sectors. With increasing adoption of minimally invasive procedures globally, the demand for skilled endoscopy and laparoscopy professionals continues to grow.
Graduates can explore career opportunities in:
The programme prepares graduates for both national and international career pathways in minimally invasive surgical healthcare services.

Teaching in Endoscopy & Laparoscopy Technology is designed to develop strong theoretical foundations, advanced technical competencies, ethical clinical practice, infection control expertise, and professional behaviour required in modern minimally invasive healthcare settings.
The programme follows a competency-based educational framework recommended by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), integrating classroom learning with simulation-based and real-time clinical exposure.
At the beginning of the programme, students undergo a structured orientation to familiarize them with:
This orientation prepares students for safe, ethical, and responsible clinical practice.
The programme integrates theoretical instruction with extensive practical and clinical training to ensure gradual competency development.
Students receive structured theoretical instruction through:
This builds strong foundations in human anatomy and physiology, surgical sciences, gastroenterology and minimally invasive surgery, endoscopic and laparoscopic instrumentation, biomedical technology, patient care and ethics, infection control and sterilization.
Before assisting in live procedures, students practice:
Simulation-based learning enhances technical confidence and patient safety.
Clinical exposure begins early and progresses semester-wise. Students are trained in:
Students gradually transition from supervised learning to independent procedural assistance during internship.
Students participate in:
This promotes critical thinking, analytical ability, and clinical decision-making.
The curriculum includes:
The final year includes a compulsory rotatory internship providing intensive hands-on training in endoscopy suites, operation theatres, minimally invasive surgical units, and related healthcare settings. This internship ensures graduates become clinically competent and industry-ready professionals.
Overall, the programme’s orientation and pedagogy are designed to produce technically skilled, ethically responsible, patient-centered, and professionally competent Endoscopy & Laparoscopy Technologists capable of working independently or as integral members of multidisciplinary surgical healthcare teams.
Academic performance is assessed on the basis of Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE) and End Semester Examination (ESE) in each semester.
There shall be a University Examination at the end of each semester. To be eligible for University examination, a candidate should fulfill all the following conditions:
Practical examination may include:
A candidate must score minimum 50% separately in theory and practical examinations wherever applicable to be declared as pass.
Candidates not fulfilling attendance requirements will not be permitted to appear for examinations and must appear subsequently as per University regulations.
